LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – A Lincoln man accused of assaulting an Uber driver now faces a felony hate crime cost within the case.
Thirty-year-previous James Danahay was charged Monday with third-diploma assault dedicated as a hate crime.
Police say an Uber driver with an Arabic identify picked up Danahay simply earlier than midnight on Oct. three. Police say Danahay started asking the driver questions on his household and ethnicity. When the driver declined to reply, police say, Danahay started yelling racial insults and calling the driver an “illegal alien.” Police say Danahay punched the driver when he pulled over and referred to as 911.
If convicted, Danahay faces as much as two years in jail. His subsequent courtroom listening to is Dec. 20.
