PEABODY, Mass. – A Peabody woman with a visible impairment says some Uber drivers are refusing to select her up because of her service dog.
She claims Uber has refused her service on a number of events because of her service dog.
Jennifer Buchanan says most of her Uber rides are wonderful. The drivers are type, courteous and immediate.
But she says some aren’t they usually refuse to select her up.
“They’re horrible, degrading,” Buchanan stated. “They’re rude, the call me names.”
On July 20, at three:30 within the afternoon she was advised to get out of the automotive.
“Ma’am get out of my car,” a driver is heard saying in a recording she made.
The Uber driver refused service to Buchanan and her information dog Keating.
“I don’t pick up any animals because I have leather seats,” the driving force tells Buchanan within the recording.
“Okay, but it’s a service dog,” she replies.
“Okay, I don’t pick up any dogs because of leather seats,” the driving force replies.
She tells him it is the regulation, however he replies, “No, not for Uber.”
The driver was apparently upset that Keating was in his 1991 BMW. It acquired so heated, Buchanan stated she filed a police report.
“Do you understand I’m blind?” Buchanan asks the driving force.
“I understand that, please get out of my car,” he says.
Since Buchanan misplaced sight a number of years in the past, she depends on two issues to get round: Keating and Uber.
The driver informed Buchanan he might cancel his journey for any cause, however Buchanan advised him he could not.
That’s when the argument began and the driving force demanded she get out of his automotive.
FOX25 reached out to Uber and a spokesperson stated drivers obtain coaching for transporting passengers with disabilities. And they prohibit any sort of discrimination in serving riders with disabilities.
